When measuring out the required length and calculating the sett, we mark out the position of each pleat.

Every kilt is different in this respect. A mistake at this stage is difficult to correct. The amount of cloth required depends on customers' measurements and the size of the sett. Usually this will be about 8 yds for an average build.

Having tacked the pleats, individual pleat is hand sewn using 9 stitches to the inch.

The number of pleats depends on size, but an average gent's kilt will have 27 pleats.

The measurements have to be checked halfway through the pleating. This is when the Kilt starts to take shape. You can see the hand sewing of the triple fringe.
